Amy became intrigued by Chinese medicine after reading about acupuncture's effectiveness in helping an enormously wide variety of conditions with virtually no side effects. Up to that point, she was unaware that acupuncture could help conditions beyond just physical pain. After more independent research, Amy felt Chinese medicine was the right fit for her and enrolled at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago.

Amy has been practicing Chinese medicine since October 2006, in a private practice setting. In 2007, she learned about the community acupuncture model and became passionate about the need to make acupuncture available to everyone, at affordable prices. She found this model to be more in line with how acupuncture is practiced in China.

In May 2009, Amy went to Working Class Acupuncture in Portland, Oregon to learn the nuts and bolts of running a community acupuncture clinic. She returned to Milwaukee, and felt more driven than ever to introduce community acupuncture to her hometown. In September 2009, she and Olivia Crane opened Milwaukee Community Acupuncture.
